Beijing Meteorological Bureau
Beijing, China - 2020
The Beijing Meteorological Bureau’s new two-story studio embodies the fluid dynamics of nature it reports on, creating a versatile broadcast environment for 13 different programs. The design draws inspiration from seasonal patterns of wind, water, and temperature - translated into circulating, rippling, and undulating forms throughout the space.
A sweeping, circular white oculus crowns the studio, introducing vertical movement and framing the central broadcast and streaming areas. The open-plan first level flows into a grand staircase ascending to a mezzanine presentation zone, highlighting the studio’s impressive height and offering 360-degree shooting capabilities.
Equipped with strategically placed pivoting, tracking, and large scale LED displays, the studio can emulate varying seasons, moods, and timeframes, providing rich versatility for live broadcasts. A live audience seating area situated between the main anchor desk and an informal interview platform allows multiple segments to be filmed simultaneously within this dynamic studio.
